Correo y Helado de Pomelo

Correo

Today was great. I received a package.

And I ate grapefruit and lemon sorbet outside on a bench.

This is just a photo I took of a building entryway, similar to the one in my building.

Los Gatos Que Comen a Hombres (the cats that eat men)

Today, I went to el Jardín Botánico. It's one of my favorite places to go in Buenos Aires to sit and sometimes draw. The main reason I like it is because it's overrun with cats. Today all of the cats were mostly sleeping - probably because it was hot. They all like to stay in a group. Sometimes they all like to sit around on one of the statues, but their favorite statue was having some sort of renovation done to it today. So instead, they laid around outside the biblioteca, which is their second favorite spot.

Seeing them all in a group in the garden reminds me of the Murakami book Kafka on the Shore. There's a part in the book (that's also a short story) about man-eating cats.

While the cats were sleeping, a lot of people were sitting around and watching them. I spent most of the day drawing them and taking pictures. These are just a couple photos. I plan on posting more later.

Pollo

Pollo en la ventana.

This is not from Chinatown but from a little shop on Corrientes that sells chickens to go. The people in the shop were nice enough to turn the light on over the grill so that I could take my picture.

Chinatown

Yesterday, I decided to walk to Chinatown in Belgrano from my apartment in Villa Crespo. It was a very long walk. It seemed like it took all day, but I'm not sure if that's actually true or not.

Somewhere along halfway there, I had the idea that it might have been daylight savings time on Sunday. But since it's spring here, I became confused as to what time that would make it. As I found out later, it was daylight savings time, and the clocks here got set forward an hour.

Anyway, I love Chinatown and went grocery shopping at one of the Asian markets.
These are a couple pictures of things in the market.

Tabouleh

The best tabouleh I've ever had, which was served with this pretty green and white swirly bread:

The view from the window of the cafe, where I ate the tabouleh:

The cafe is called Baraka, and it's on the corner of Gurrachaga and an alley whose name I can't remember.
It's in Palermo Viejo, not too far from my apartment.

Deep Wells

"I sometimes think that people's hearts are like deep wells.
Nobody knows what's at the bottom.
All you can do is imagine by what comes floating to the surface every once in awhile"
